Europe’s largest cruise operator, CroisiEurope has announced that it will be launching a new ship on the Douro River next year.
Portugal’s River of Gold
The MS Amalia Rodrigues will be the sixth ship to join the cruise line’s fleet and will also be the third premium rated ship.
The ship will span three decks, measuring 80m and accommodating 132 passengers across 66 cabins, including four suites.
All the cabins will be air-conditioned, equipped with a twin/double bed, private bathroom, wardrobe and many more amenities. The 58 cabins which feature on the middle and upper decks include French balconies with large windows to view the scenery.
The ship will be furnished in Strasbourg, featuring a contemporary style and colours which represent the Mediterranean, as well as plenty natural lighting and open spaces.
CroisiEurope have advised that the ship will cruise from April to October, offering a range of six- to eight-day itineraries along the Douro Valley – a stunning wine region and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
She will be christened in Porto on 20 March 2019, in the presence of CroisiEurope’s owners – the Schmitter family.

CroisiEurope has advised that the Amalia Rodrigues is nearing the end of its construction and will soon be heading for Portugal.
The ship will offer various cruises along the Douro, such as:
- Porto and the Douro Valley
- Porto, The Douro Valley and Salamanca
- Lisbon to Leverinho via Coimbra, Porto
- Lisbon to Porto
Within these itineraries, cruisers will have the opportunity to explore the heart of Portugal by sailing along the Douro River, perfect for discovering the heritage and culture of the region. Some cruises also encounter the Andalusian culture in Spain.
As more and more people discover the delights of the Douro, it’s clear to see why the cruise line have expanded their fleet!
