Located southeast of Moscow, the River Don is one of the major rivers in Russia with a length of 1,220 miles. Rising in the town of Novomoskovsk, just southeast of Tula, the river first flows southeast to Voronezh, then southwest to its mouth in the Sea of Azov near the city of Rostov on Don. It lies between the Volga River to the east and the Dnieper River to the west.
