Avalon Waterways was the recipient of two prestigious Cruise Critic awards last month. Celebrating its ninth anniversary, the UK Editors’ Picks Awards are part of the world’s largest cruise reviews site and online cruise community.
The winners were announced at a ceremony in December 2018, amongst a number of influential cruise media, cruise experts, industry leaders and honoured guests. Avalon Waterways won in the Best Cabins and Best for Active Cruisers categories.
Here is what the awarding body had to say about the luxury river cruise line:
Best Cabins – Avalon Waterways
“Avalon bucks the norm with beds that face the window, which is great if you want to take a rest in your cabin and enjoy the passing scenery. Its “Comfort Collection Beds” include memory foam mattress toppers and a choice of pillows, resulting in some of the most comfortable beds on the rivers. There is attention to small details, plus soothing “fireplace” settings on the flat-screen TV.”
Best for Active Cruisers – Avalon Waterways
“Avalon’s innovative Active Discovery cruises appeal to passengers wanting more than classic sightseeing excursions. The programme includes jogging tours of Vienna, kayaking, cycling and hiking. Launched on the Danube last year, the programme is being extended to the Rhine for 2018. Avalon has also introduced new health-conscious vegetarian dishes based around fresh, local produce sourced from small farms.”
Giles Hawkes, CEO of Avalon Waterways said:
“We are truly honoured to receive the awards for Best Cabins and Best for Active Cruisers. It is our mission to offer an incomparable river cruise experience and to attract new discerning travellers to the cruise market. We feel both proud and humbled to have our commitment recognised in such a substantial way. We wish to thank the editors of Cruise Critic and their outstanding community of cruising enthusiasts and experts, along with our passengers, partners and innovative product and design teams for this great recognition.”
