It looks like my blog post on the Queen enjoying river cruises has reached the A-List in Hollywood, and not just the loyal readers of normal. For The Sun newspaper have today announced that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are now seriously considering chartering the same ship, the Hebridean Princess, for their wedding.
According to the story, the couple had originally planned to get married at their French chateau but their son Maddox was looking through photos of their holiday at the Carnell Estate in Ayrshire and was inspired to suggest a trip on the ship, following the great time they had already had in Scotland.
If this story is true then it just goes to show the continued popularity of the cruise line, and the idea of river cruising in general. It’s reported that Sir Alex Ferguson made enquiries to try and sail on the ship this summer but was knocked back as the ship was already fully booked.
When the newspaper contacted the cruise line the chief operating officer, Ken Charleson, said “We have a very confidential relationship with a number of high-profile guests. I can’t confirm whether they have been making enquiries or not. But, of course, they are more than welcome.”
The couple would have no trouble at all affording the cost of a private charter, which would allow them to get married anywhere around Scotland that they choose, whether that’s inland or out at sea around the Shetland Isles or the Orkneys.
Getting married on the ship wouldn’t be a problem either. Scotland’s licensing laws are more relaxed than France, so they could manage to organise a wedding on the ship with relative ease.
So that’s now The Queen, ‘Brangelina’, and an attempt to book by Sir Alex Ferguson.
I wonder which celebrity on a river cruise I’ll be blogging about next…
