A Taste of Bordeaux with AmaWaterways

My partner and I recently took our first river cruise on Ama Waterways doing a Taste of Bordeaux itinerary and what an amazing trip we had!

We took an indirect flight from Manchester via Amsterdam which was no trouble at all. As soon as we arrived in Bordeaux and collected our luggage an AmaWaterways representative was waiting for us to take us to the Ama Dolce, which we would be calling home for the next few days as we cruised along the Garonne and Dordogne river.

The ship was fantastic with lots of places to relax. My favourite spot was the top deck with the sun loungers and deck games, it was a perfect place to relax and enjoy sailing through the French countryside. Of course, we had lots of time to enjoy the ship’s cuisine and there was lots of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you can fit more in after all that, they offer afternoon tea and late-night snacks! The food was superb, and I highly recommend heading to the Chef’s Table whilst on-board to enjoy the seven-course dinner paired with some delicious wines. The service on-board was fantastic and the crew couldn’t do enough for you, they were friendly and happy and made you feel so relaxed and comfortable!

River cruises with Ama Waterways includes a choice of excursions and there is something to suit everyone. My favourite excursion of the holiday was the Saint-Émilion bike tour and wine tasting which was so much fun and so picturesque, we cycled through the vineyards and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We had a chance to stop in Saint-Émilion for a quick ice cream before cycling over to the vineyard for some wine tasting before we were coached back to the ship.

Overall we would highly recommend an Ama Waterways river cruise, our experience from start to finish was amazing and we had a holiday to remember. We’re already planning our next river cruise for 2024!
