It’s been established as something of a tradition here on the RiverVoyages.com blog to talk about the ever-expanding fleet of ships from Viking River Cruises but the latest news regarding the line’s newest vessels is especially relevant to us.
During a recent ceremony in Amsterdam, no fewer than six new Viking Longships were christened, and the line paid special tribute to the cruise agencies which help it to promote its ships by appointing representatives from six different agencies as godmothers to the ships. Among them was none other than Jennifer Gasser, Vice President of Supplier Relations and Product Operations for our parent company World Travel Holdings. Jennifer was godmother to the 190-passenger Viking Egil, named after the Norse god who was both a warrior and a poet.
As for which rivers Viking Egil will explore, she’ll either be bound for the Rhine, Main and Danube, catering to passengers who want to experience the world’s most popular river cruise itineraries, or help passengers to experience the romance of Paris and the beauty of Normandy on sailings along the stunning Seine River.
That’s not the end of the story for Viking when it comes to new ships for this year either, as later in March, Viking Osfrid will also be christened. Smaller than her sister Longships, she has been purpose-built to explore Portugal’s Douro River, meaning that from April onwards, Viking River Cruises will operate a total of three ships on the sun-kissed waterway.
The other ships to be christened in Amsterdam were Viking Rolf, Viking Kadlin, Viking Alruna, Viking Vilhjalm and Viking Tialfi.
Wherever you want to go and whichever ship you want to sail, we have a fantastic selection of Viking River Cruises available, so take a look at what we have available, then call us today to book.
